competing networks by mid 2006).
- Asiacell, a
consortium of the local Asiacell
Telecom, Wattaniya Telecom Kuwait &
Bahrain based United Gulf Bank have been
awarded the Northern region (where
Asiacell already operates a small
network based in Suleimaniya).
- A consortium led by
Cairo based Orascom Telecom have been
awarded Central region. Lucent has been
awarded a fixed line contract for
Baghdad.
- The Southern region
has been awarded to Atheer Telecom,
which comprises Mobile
